Abstract
We will present a recently developed model, based on a discrete version of the Boltzmann equation, which is able to describe, in a theoretically consistent way, the dynamics of thermal fluid flows. The method has been exploited to simulate highly non-trivial systems, in presence of both compressibility and stratification. New striking effects, observable under such conditions in the late turbulent stage of gravity-driven fluid mixing, will be also discussed.
