Critical properties and phase diagram of the quantum anisotropic XY model in a
transverse random field
The behavior of the XY chain with transverse randomness is investigated by
means of the density-matrix renormalization group. The critical exponent for
the spontaneous magnetization and the vanishing of the gap in the excitation
spectrum with increasing randomness are determined, and the transition line
is drawn. The effects of quantum fluctuations in the Griffiths' phase is
discussed and the possibility for a renormalized spin-wave theory is indicated.
