Anisotropic Fluctuations in Turbulence
Isotropic and anisotropic statistical properties of incompressible
turbulent flows are reviewwd. We demonstrate, both theoretically and numerically,
how projections on the irreducible representations of the SO(3)
symmetry group play an important role in disentangling leading from sub-leading
scaling behaviors. Discussion on the implication of such findings on the
established phenomenological understanding of turbulent flows and of passive
quantities advected by turbulent flows will be also presented.
